LGBTQ Gender Affirming Therapist

AZCFC is a proud and proven leader in the area of LGBTQ and Gender affirming therapy. Our programs are expanding and we are seeking qualified, ambitious, passionate professionals to join our team. In this position you will have the opportunity to:

​

  • Provide counseling and related services to youth and adults who identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender or questioning and their families.

  • Provide professional and compassionate counseling to LGBTQ clients and families in a manner that is respectful, affirming, supportive and non-judgmental.

  • Provide psycho-educational groups for LGBTQ clients.

  • Assists clients with the coming-out process when emotional support and understanding about the process is necessary.

  • Utilize evidenced based materials and approaches to assist clients in decision making

  • Develop and maintain a library of materials related to LGBTQ resources.

  • Provide opportunities for LGBTQ clients to discuss their concerns in a safe and supportive environment

  • Coordinate support services for the LGBTQ clients.

  • Assist LGBTQ clients achieve a healthy, congruent affectionate orientation/gender/identity expression.

  • Conduct mental health assessments and prepare individualized service/transition plans.

  • Conduct individual, group and family counseling.

  • Work collaboratively with Case Manager to ensure that all service delivery goals are met.

  • Perform all administrative and record keeping tasks associated with client case records in designated time frame.

  • Follows WPATH guidelines for providing services to gender transitioning clients

  • Provide advocacy and support in the best interest of the client.

  • Participates in community networking and marketing to assist referral sources in learning about the services.

  • Note: This position will require a small general mental health case load in addition to LGBTQ clients.

This is a full time salaried position with a generous bonus structure. Some evenings and possibly Saturdays may be required to meet the needs of clients and agency.

Skills / Requirements

  • Although all applicants will be considered, professionals who identify as members of the LGBTQ community are preferred for this position.

  • Masters Degree (preferred) in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field supplemented by a minimum of two years experience in individual, family and group counseling.

  • Licensed professionals are preferred for this position.

  • Previous experience working with LGBTQ individuals.

  • Demonstrated competency working with the LGBTQ community and meeting their needs.

  • Demonstrated competency in individual, group and family counseling.

  • * Knowledge in adolescent development, health education, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and harm reduction.

  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple identities related to gender and sexuality

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and cultural competency.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a range of personalities.

  • Must be computer literate (Word and Excel).

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to communicate in clear effective manner both orally and written.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to have flexible schedule to meet the needs of the clients and families.

  • Must demonstrate awareness and acceptance of cultural differences of clients, staff and community contacts.

  • Valid Arizona driver’s license, clear driving record and current automobile insurance.
